Install, test and share

On Windows#

Packs live in the game’s mods folder, one folder each. Main menu → Mods → Open mods folder opens it. It is in your user folder:

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\DefaultCompany\Darts Player Simulator\mods
  • From a folder: copy the pack’s folder (the one with mod.json in it) into the mods folder and press Reload mods.
  • From a zip: press Import a mod and pick the zip. It is checked before anything is unpacked (see what a zip may hold), then installed as a folder named after the pack’s id.
  • Make one: in any text editor, or with the Mod Studio (Mods → Mod Studio), which builds packs with forms and checks them as you go.

On Android and iPhone#

On a phone the game calls packs data packs. Main menu → Data packs → Import a data pack, then pick the zip in the system’s file picker. The game reads only the file you pick.

  • The import sheet shows what is in the zip before you install it, and what it leaves out.
  • A pack with the same id that is already installed is replaced only when you say so.
  • Each pack has a switch, and More shows its description and contents. Delete removes it from the phone.
  • A phone has no mods folder you can reach and no Mod Studio: make packs on a computer, zip them, and copy the zip to the phone (by cloud storage, a cable or a message to yourself).

What a zip may hold#

A zip is checked before anything is unpacked:

  • mod.json must be at the zip’s top, or inside one folder at its top. Both of these work:
    pub-legends.zip pub-legends.zip mod.json pub-legends/ data/… mod.json data/…
  • Only JSON, text (.md, .txt), pictures, sound, fonts and the pack’s own script come in. Anything else is skipped and listed on the import sheet.
  • Paths that climb out of the folder, absolute paths and zip bombs are refused. The zip may be up to 512 MB, a file in it up to 64 MB, and all of it unpacked up to 1 GB.
  • The id core is the base game’s and cannot be imported.
3D models

In this version an import leaves out .glb models, so a pack’s own trophies, stages and dart parts only arrive when its folder is copied into the mods folder on Windows. The rest of the pack installs, and the game uses its own models.

Testing on the Mods screen#

The Mods screen shows every installed pack as cards or as a table (Cards / Table; the game remembers which). Each card shows the pack’s status:

StatusMeans
LoadedIn use for new careers. It may still have warnings.
DisabledSwitched off by you.
Not loadedIt has errors, so none of it is used.

Pick a pack for its details: the description and screenshots, what it holds (players, tours, patches, a script…), each problem with its file, line, record and field, its place in the load order, and buttons to open its folder, edit it in the Mod Studio or remove it.

  1. Change a file and press Reload mods. There is no need to restart the game.
  2. Read the pack’s issues. Fix every error; read every warning.
  3. Start a new career to see your content. A career already under way picks up some content when it is next loaded (stories, the press, artwork, the rules: see Packs and careers), but not new players, tours or events.
  4. If the pack has a script, load a career and look at Scripts in this career in the pack’s details: the hooks it uses, its last lines of log, and any error that stopped it.

Load order and switching packs off#

  • Load earlier and Load later in a pack’s details move it in the order. When two packs change the same thing, the later one wins. The base game always loads first, and packs that come with the game straight after it.
  • The switch on each pack turns it off for new careers. Careers under way keep what they began with.
  • Remove… deletes the pack’s folder. The same rule holds: a career that used it keeps its copy.

Sharing a pack#

  1. Raise version in mod.json whenever you change a pack you have shared, and say which game versions it is for in gameVersion.
  2. Give it an icon, a description and, if you like, a banner and screenshots: they are what people see on the Mods screen.
  3. Zip the pack’s folder. In the Mod Studio, Export does it for you (save your changes first).
  4. Share the zip. On Windows it installs with Import a mod, on phones with Import a data pack.
Keep it your own

Every player, tour, event, venue and sponsor in the base game is fictional. If your pack uses real names, logos or photographs, make sure you have the right to use them before you share it.
