Guide
Retirement and legacy
Every career ends. The player can announce a farewell season (the circuit says goodbye; they retire when the season ends) or retire now from the hub's Legacy screen. The end of a season asks whether it's time when they're getting on, when their level has fallen well below their best, or when they've lost their Tour Card late in their career. At an extreme age the career ends when the season does, whatever the player wants.
A retired career is over: the save stays, read-only, with a career summary (titles, majors, best ranking, earnings, records, 180s and nine-darters, rivals, cards, season by season, the story of it) and a legacy score broken down line by line. The same score judges the computer players the living world retires; the greats of both go into the Hall of Fame, which belongs to the app rather than a save (reached from the main menu), so it spans every career and outlives deleted saves.
Three kinds of content drive it:
data/legacy.json: the scoring, the tier names, the Hall of Fame bar and the retirement ages. This page.- Media lines with
legacy.*slots: the news of your farewell, your retirement and Hall of Fame inductions, and the pundits' takes. See Media lines. - Social posts with the

Settings#
The file holds one object (an array of them also works). Every field except id is optional; a field you leave out keeps the game's default, and several mods apply in load order, later fields winning. rankBands and tiers are lists: a mod that gives one replaces the earlier list whole. The core pack's data/legacy.json lists every field with its default value.

points.major | 40 | Each major title. |
points.worldTitle | 40 | On top of major, for a World Championship (an event tagged worldChampionship). |
points.award | 10 | Each end-of-season award (Player of the Year, Young Player, Most 180s, Best Average, Highest Checkout). |

points.graduateCard | 5 | each Tour Card won by a graduate of your own academy (the facility; see Population). |
points.graduateTitle | 8 | Each tier 1 or 2 title a graduate of yours wins… |
points.graduateMajor | 20 | …and each major (instead of graduateTitle). |
points.graduateTop32 | 10 | A graduate's first season ending inside the world's top 32 (once each). The credits appear as one "Your academy's graduates" line of the breakdown, and as moments on your timeline. |
rankBands | below | Points for the best Order of Merit rank reached: the first band whose rank it's within. |
tiers | below | What a score is called: the highest min it reaches. blurb is the line under it on the summary. |
hallOfFame.score | 400 | Legacy score that earns a place in the Hall of Fame, for the player and computer players alike. |
retirement.promptAge | 45 | From this age, the end of each season asks whether it's time (0 = never). |
retirement.declineAge | 38 | From this age, a rating declineDrop or more below the player's best asks too (0 = never). |
retirement.declineDrop | 6 | See declineAge (ratings run 0–100). |
retirement.cardLossAge | 36 | From this age, losing the Tour Card asks too (0 = never). |
retirement.forceAge | 65 | At this age the career ends at the season's end, like it or not (0 = never: the player retires when they choose). |
The end of a season asks at most once, and the question is an inbox message, not a lock: the player can play on as long as they like until forceAge.
Default rank bands: No.1 80 points, top 4 55, top 8 40, top 16 28, top 32 16, top 64 8, top 128 3.

How computer players are judged#
When the living world retires players at the end of a season, the ones who could have got there (named players, the top two tiers, or a reputation of 40 or more) are scored with the same formula. Their numbers are what they did in this world: the titles, awards, ranking, prize money, 180s and nine-darters since the career began, plus their reputation, which stands in for what a named star did before. Those who reach hallOfFame.score are inducted, with a news story. Early in a new career few veterans have the history for it; the Hall fills up as the years go by.
Media lines#
| Slot | When |
|---|---|
legacy.announce.headline / legacy.announce.body | You announce a farewell season |
legacy.retired.headline / legacy.retired.body | You retire (by choice, after the farewell, or at age) |
legacy.hallOfFame.headline / legacy.hallOfFame.body | You, or a computer player, go into the Hall of Fame |
legacy.take | A pundit's take on any of them |
They're ordinary media lines. Lines without styles are the neutral copy; lines with styles are a writer's own voice and can replace the headline when a journalist with that style runs the story. Takes need a style (the pundit's); a take about you can also use mood (warm for a pundit who likes you, cold for one who doesn't). A line is skipped when one of its placeholders has nothing to fill it.
| Placeholder | What |
|---|---|
{subject} {subjectFirst} {subjectLast} {subjectNick} | Who it's about |
{age} | Their age at the end (the season's end for a farewell) |
{years} {seasons} | "14 years", "14 seasons" (or "a year", "one season") |
{since} | Their first season |
{titles} {titleWords} | Titles, "12" and "12 titles" / "a title" (left out with none) |
{majors} {majorWords} | Majors, "3" and "3 majors" / "a major" (left out with none) |
{bestRank} | "No.4" (left out when never ranked) |
{legacy} {score} | The legacy tier ("Legend") and score |
With no legacy lines at all (a pack that removes them), the stories fall back to plain built-in copy.
Saves#
The settings are copied into a save when the career is created and follow the installed packs when a save is loaded. A save from before retirement existed picks them up on load and starts its legacy from what it already holds (its best ranking from the rankings history, its peak level from the rating history, Tour Cards won and lost from the inbox).
